The world of sports gambling is a dark one, filled with desperate men betting their paychecks on the hopes of a team covering a spread. The men behind those men are sports handicappers, a quasi-legitimate business where they provide gamblers their winning picks for a nominal fee. These men rely on their success, but more importantly, they’re salesmen who will sell their clients the chance at success for simply taking their supposedly spot-on predictions. Two For The Money is a film that delves into that world of sports handicapping that claims to be based on a true story (although elements in the storyline make that hard to believe).

Unfortunately, what was intended to be a non-violent demonstration resulted in the unjustified slaughter of thirteen people on the day of the march and one more, four and a half months later as a result of injuries sustained from the incident.

It’s been twenty years since Sylvester Stallone donned the crazy mullet and patented bandana that made him John Rambo, a psychologically damaged Green Beret who just couldn’t make the adjustment back to civilization. A lot has changed since then. The cold war is over, Vietnam has passed the torch to another unpopular war, and the mullet is no longer an acceptable hair style. Undaunted, Stallone has re-ignited one of the most violent movie series’ of all time with his latest installment of Rambo.

Floating through the blogosphere the other day and I came across a unique story from Silicon Valley Insider about Mahalo founder Jason Calacanis playing in a poker game at the D6 Conference. While the story focuses in on him using Twitter during the game, there was one minor note that caught my attention. Here is what he wrote on his twitter at 2am:
Rumor/prediction at D poker table: netflix to get bought by apple or msft. Thinking is 2m customers to boost online/offline movie service

Greencine is one of the more popular DVD rental services out there for hardcore movie buffs. They have a ton of independent and foreign films that include some extremely hard to find cult classics. We’re a member there right now and love spending an hour or two finding obscure titles that are exclusive to them.
One of the biggest gripes about Greencine however is that they don’t offer a free trial. When we try to tell friends about their service, they always balk at the fact they can’t try them out and see for themselves. Well that’s changed, as we worked out a deal with them to offer a 14-day free trial to new members. This trial is not available to you by going directly to their website. Below is the link to the free trial:

I watched Me and You and Everyone We Know tonight based on a friend telling me I would think one part of it was hilarious. He was correct in his recommendation, I really enjoyed this movie.
I actually saw the part in question a year or so ago on the interweb as a viral video and thought it was hilarious, so when that part popped up I was really happy since I totally had forgotten that this is something that I have wanted to watch for a while.

In 2002, horror fans were taken back by the surprise hit 28 Days Later. This independent film used new methods of filmmaking mixed with a fresh twist to the flesh-eating zombie line story found in classics such as Dawn of the Dead. The film kept audiences on the edge of their seats and brought a new, darker side to horror films that was a refreshing change in this genre. 28 Weeks Later is the anticipated sequel to the original hit, and it comes filled with the same intensity that turned audiences on their heads.

As the movie world slowly shifts from mail order rentals to streaming, Netflix has taken the first step in streaming directly to television screens with the release of a set-top box. The new player which is made by Roku, is 5 inches by 5 inches and retails for $99. Users can hook it up directly to a high speed connection or purchase a wireless signal for an additional charge.

The first time I saw Rambo, I must have been 7 or 8 years old. I remember watching it with my parents. The same time we were watching the movie we actually caught a mouse in a trap. It was on cable television and I was young…
Anyhow I grew up on the other Rambo movies and only knew them as John Rambo is a hard MF. I heard how the original Rambo movie had an entirely different ending (I will not spoil it for you). My buddy let me barrow his copy of the movie and I watched it last night and was blown away. Obviously I never understood the movie, or that it was about something bigger than a crazy military vet shooting up a town.
